Sialadenitis most commonly manifests in the parotid gland (parotitis). The organisms most commonly isolated from bacterial ascending sialadenitis are α-haemolytic streptococci, such as Streptococcus viridans and Staphylococcus aureus, the latter frequently being penicillin-resistant.
